Would you support a Dead or Alive Xtreme Game with a male cast?

Short Introduction

This month, Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 will be officially released in Japan. You have the opportunity to import it to the USA and Europe – it's “Region Free”. TECMO Team Ninja – the producer of the game decided, to abandon the western market because they fear a big shitstorm. The focus of the latest instalment is the “gravure feature”, even more than it was in the last games. The subtitle “Beach Volleyball” has gone to underline, that this game is totally about “fan service”.

The PS4 version of the game has the subtitle “fortune” while the PS Vita version is called “venus”. It seems that it has something to do with the greek goddess of love “Venus”.

No entry for man

In the past, the male cast was not allowed to enter Zack's Island. As the owner of the isle, Zack is allowed to visit the girls hotel rooms to give them gifts like bathing suits, candy and some other stuff. I guess, Team Ninja made their decisions really carefully. Would a DOAX3 with a male cast generate “big cash” for the company?

Who will get invited? In the DOA series, we do have some younger man beside some older ones, that are drawing one's pension really soon. The typical picture of a dream beach are actually young, attractive people who are just having fun so here is the question - how far could we go with the series then?

One option is to invite the younger cast only. That would be Ein, Hayate, Eliot, Jann Lee, Rig, Jacky, Akira, Bayman and Hayabusa. That would be solid ten characters. Brad Wong, Gen Fu, Bass, Raidou and Leon are too old for this, aren't they? Where is the age limit? Well, there's the possibility to implement them into the game, but that would be really unusual for my taste.

Who want's the guys?

There are suggestions and requests all over the internet. If you take a look using the hashtag #DOAX3 on Facebook and Twitter you will find out, that the demand for them is really high. Female and also male gamers want them to be in the game. That said, the audience clearly prefers the younger men.

Are the males too hot?

DoAX3's focus are the feminine charms. The series is known for ambiguous animations. On the stage inside the isle's casino, the girls show off, what they are made of. The girls curves can be seen in detail, but the producers also know how far they can go.

What would it look like, if the guys like Eliot, Ryu and Jann Lee would actually be in the game? Underwear and swimwear giving a lot of room to speculate but then, there was the “bouncing” feature. It was invented to bring the female curves into the right spot and to let it look as real as possible. In the media section, you have to do decisions, if it comes to that part. The upper part and backside of a human body can be put in into the softer corner (but that can change drastically in therms of presentation and interaction). Everything under the waistline (frontview) is made for the “adult only” audience, especially when it comes to DOAX3, because it is a pure fan-service game. Sure, you can reduce the realism, when you deactivate the “bouncing feature” plus reducing the bulge size. But that is exactly, what want's to be featured in DoAX. The propensity to exaggerate. The “bouncing breast” switch-on and -off option in Dead or Alive 5 is a good example for it.

The trend with the latest “vantinesday DLC (last blog) shows once more, that Team Ninja is accepting requests of female and gay gamers for content like that. The male cast got tight fitting swimwear that reveals more than ever before.

Looking into the future

Currently, the DoAX series is having a tough image in the USA and Europe – too many gamers and critics from all over the world think, the west is not ready for this. It seems, that the taste of Japanese gamers is too different from EU/US gamers. However, lots of DOAX-fans do have another view of the situation, Team Ninja reacts with making the third game of the franchise Japan / Asia only. The community manager added, that this game will never be released in the west.

If you want the game, you have many options to import it. Good for you, because Team Ninja made an english version of the game. The only thing you need is a Japanese/Asia PSN-Account to get all the updates and DLCs.
